10/02/2005 - 2006 CBR sponsors and 2006 CBR race calendar.

We have two important things to discuss...2006 CBR sponsors, and the 2006 racing schedule!

The first 2006 sponsor to sign up was Dr. Eric Sternlicht of Simply Fit. When we told him about our 100-kilometer crit season, he pitched in with a $100 cash prime for each of our P.I.II midway points! Recently, he suffered a horrible bike crash that left him with a broken pelvis. Personally, I have known him for 10 years, as I raced for his team in the mid-90s. I consider him a good friend and exceptionally gifted with nutrition & physiology. Please visit this link if you'd like to send him a get-well note.

Our 2nd sponsor is newly-acquired Smith sunglasses! For the 2006 racing year, we will be awarding these sunglasses as primes and prizes. We're very pleased that we are able to boomerang such really cool prizes to the racers that deservingly win them. This is in stark contrast to some of the 'gifts' that other race promoters award...like slices of pie and empty slurpee cups.

Our 3rd sponsor is Eileen Olson of Erowheels. She's a bike racing coach whose racers have done very well for themselves. If you are looking to advance your cycling, then you might want to have a consultative chat with Eileen; she knows her stuff!

Our 4th & 5th sponsors are Clif Bar and Steak Knives, so 2006 looks like another great year for CBR. Clif Bar will be giving us a whole lot of product to award, and Steak Knives will be looking to stick it to the man!

We are very happy and fortunate to keep renewing our previous sponsors as well as receive new sponsorship like Erowheels. Without these sponsors, we could not award the prizes & primes that we award; they are a direct contribution to CBR's success.

The 2006 CBR racing schedule: Uncle Tren will be permitting his Piru Time Trial series through CBR, and he'll also be promoting the two state CBR time trial championships (the individual/tandem ITT, and the 2-person/4-person TTT). El Dorado will have its 22nd anniversary Tuesday Twilight Racing Series, and the BAR Series will return...bigger for 2006! We are hoping to have an 8-race BAR Series for 2006, with 3 of those races being stage races. It's really contigent upon permitting, so stay tuned. Starting in 2006, we are increasing the BAR Series prizelist to $1,500 (previously from $1,000). After receiving Steve Strickler's input, we are also having this huge plaque made to recognize the annual, top-3 racers in each BAR Series category. We are also going that extra mile in having some kick-ass trophies made for those who crack the top-5 in the overall BAR Series. If you take the time to talk to us, then we will take the time to act. Your input is greatly appreciated, as we want you to have a vote in bike racing's destiny.

BEHIND THE CURTAIN: we are working diligently to provide the racers in our area with some great races and some great race courses. If there's anything we can do to make it better, then don't hesitate to CONTACT us! Have fun during this off-season!

BOLO (Be On the Lookout): a smaller, faster version of the race promoter DJ Pork Chop. Guess his current weight and win a free bike race entry!

09/11/2005 - FINAL El Dorado results & other good stuff

I'm sorry for getting this out so late. If you missed the last Eldo, you missed a really good time. Typically, our August participation dwindles as the racing season draws to a close and racers are tired. This year, we had out LARGEST turnout ever for a final El Dorado. 181, which didn't (even) compare to last year's 161...and last year's final Eldo was a great turnout!

ABR waivers & races are okay for USCF races?????
We were under the impression, via SCNCA's Eric Smith, that only USCF races are allowed on the SCNCA website. CBR is not allowed on their website, but they gave us a link that 'jumps' you to our website. After looking at the Fiesta Island's waiver and time trial race flyer, it appears that these ABR races are sanctioned under the USCF, since they are highlighted on the official SCNCA website. Why is ABR, based out of the midwest USA, included in SCNCA's official race schedule? Why is it that CBR is not, and we're based in SCNCA's own backyard? Anyone interested in a game of Monopoly?

Now that the 2005 CBR race season is winding down, there's actually time to talk about off-season fitness, and here it is: WORK ON YOUR WEAKNESSES!!!!!

People refrain from time trials because they're generally not good at it, so now is the best time to improve. Time trialing helps you in any cycling event, whether it's crit racing, road racing, or especially time trialing! If you need to attack, bridge a gap, or tow the whole field to the breakaway, this is where it comes into play. Time trialing is all about suffering. If you have the chance, go to Tren's Piru Time Trials during the off season, you'll be glad you did!

Linked here are the results, and thanks for all of your support; we hope to see you in 2006!

-Christopher Lotts, Executive Director of CBR

PS: we just donated to help the pets & animals suffering from Hurricane Katrina. PLEASE, if you have the ability, please help those animals that cannot help themselves. Use this link. They are highly ethical...they publish their IRS Form 990 on their website...that's the form that non-profits use for tax purposes. Maybe one day the USCF will publish their 990!

08/28/2005 - Final Eldo & group photo at 6pm!

Well this is it, the final El Dorado set for August 30th at 6pm. The group photo will be shot exactly at 6pm, then the race starts. After the race, we'll head over to Taco Surf for food, drink & fun. Don't forget to get there early, as we must organize all the racers for the photo...this will be similar to herding cats. There will also be bunches of giveaways as well as wicked cool music.

Don't forget, we will be issuing checks to the top-10 Overall (Series I, II, & III) point holders for the Pro/I/II/III ($1,500) as well as the top-5 point holders in the Masters 40+($200) and the Cat. IV/V($100)! I'm fairly certain the Greg Miller will be present to award the Costa Rica trip to the winner! Gee, who is that? We will have the points tallied and posted (as of 8/23/5), and will calculate the points for the last race afterwards. The money in the Masters and IV/V is more of a symbol than the actual amount itself. This also discourages 'sandbagging,' or deliberately remaining in a less-challenging category. We want talented racers (those who consistently place high) to move onward & upward!

I just rec'd a phone call today from our coffee sponsor, and he is making adjustments to his schedule to be there as well. While our sponsors are walking about tomorrow, please remember to keep the criticism to a minimum; otherwise, all 2006 race primes will be free entries to our crits. It's real important that our sponsors love us so much that they come back for 2006 and beyond!

For 2006, we're working on different racing venues as well as resurrecting a couple of courses from years gone by! Our CBR sponsorship proposal is finished, so we're also looking for potential 2006 sponsors. If you know of anyone that loves cycling and wants to be a part of growing this sport...send them our way!

We hope that our returning racers enjoyed themselves at our events this year, and we hope that our new racers transition into returning racers in 2006! Questions, comments, complaints? CONTACT us.

08/28/2005 - Eldo's start time is 6:05pm!

We wanted to hit you with this quick email so that you could take a look at El Dorado's latest race results as well as register for Sunday's race.

Grab a friend (or three friends!) and head down to Palmdale this Sunday morning for the CBR State Team Time Trial Championships (2-person & 4-person). The online registration is below, and we hope to see you there. DONT'T WAIT! Registration ends Friday night, so guarantee your race number. It's only 25 miles; you can do it!

Only 2 more El Dorados (Eldos) until it's over for the 2005 racing season. Don't forget that the Eldo photo will take place on the last Eldo (August 30th). Many CBR sponsors will be there as well as the Simple Green/Volvo racing team sponsor, and I know he wants to see a bunch of Simple Green jerseys in that photo and winning the race!! If you can make this Tuesday, we're going to have a bunch of giveaway products from Clif Bar, Simple Green, and Monkey & Son coffee. DJ Dave Skott will be playing wicked tunes while we conclude our last race of the season. After the race, we're heading over to Taco Surf where Mark Scott will give us a class on bike handling into the last lap of a race! Yay! We'll have directions to Taco Surf at Eldo.

Not much else to babble about; the season's almost over! Stay safe, train harder than your competition, and call me if you have any questions!

08/14/2005 - Eldo starts at 6:10pm! CBR State TTT. Richard Mitchell isn't dead.

There are only three more El Dorados remaining for the 2005 season. Lately, we've received great props from the OC Weekly as well as last Thursday's OC Register! In the very near future, look for a mention in Southern California Bicyclist. I can't stress how important it is to spread the word about both good bike racing venues as well as bad bike racing venues...hopefully we're somewhere near the former and not the latter!

El Dorado will start this Tuesday at 6:10pm and end at 7:10pm. Please make sure you allow enough time to complete the paperwork and take a lap to warm up. Also, our grand finale picture day will be August 30th at 6pm. Please arrive early for the photo as well as some kick-ass giveaways. DJ Dave Skott will be there to spin tunes, so if you have requests send him an email!

The race held by Carrera Promotions (Ben Cardenas) on August 21st is not happening (what a surprise), so there is no excuse for you to grab a friend for the 2-person CBR State TTT Championship, or if you have more than a friend then you can compete in the 4-person State TTT Champs. It's the same course as the ITT. This is a state championship event, and you know how much your team (and the businesses that sponsor your team) love state champions on the team, so come on out to play! Uncle Tren has every available category except dysfunctional clydesdales; otherwise I would have a lock on it. Register early to get the best start!

The rumormill on Richard Mitchell is getting out of hand. For those that saw/heard about the crash last week; he's doing just fine. While his wife might veto his next bike race, he is on the road to a complete recovery. For those that expressed concern over his health, you have kind hearts. Thanks again to the volunteers at 1st aid who assisted greatly (Allen, Tommy, and JR).

Race ResultsCBR State Champ's Crit & BAR Series Results

08/11/2005 - Congratulations to CBR's newest state champions! Special props go to Karl Bodine taking the Cat. I jersey & Nate Deibler won it in the Cat. II field in that extremely tough 100 kilometer crit while Gibby took both champion jerseys in the 30+ and 40+, Fabian Guzman in the Cat. III, Tommy Robles in the Cat. IV, Richard Kim in the 40+ IV/V, Tom Gates in the 50+, Dara Rogers won the state jersey in the Elite Women, and Priscilla Calderon won in the Women III! As Harm Jensen said, anyone can finish a 90-minute crit, but it takes training to do well in a 100k(63 miles for the metrically challenged) crit!
Complete Results >>>

In the BAR Series, Karl Bodine won the Pro-Elite I/II, Mark Scott won it in the 40+, and Bill Harris swept the 30+! In the BAR Series, it always comes down to the most consistent finisher in all 6 races. We plan on having it bigger and better in 2006!
Complete Results >>>

We want to thank everyone who came out to support our events throughout the 2005 racing season. These races could not have taken place without the financial support of our sponsors AND the tireless efforts of our volunteers. While the two of us do our thing, those volunteers consistently step up and make these events happen. Dr. Eric Sternlicht/Simply Fit made sure that we had all those water bottles to give away, Clif Bar gave us the new products to give to you, and Thom Fhurmann/Monkey & Son gave us all those coffee samplers to hand out to our registered racers. Thanks again to everyone, and we had a great time goofing around, having fun, and throwing down some bike races in between.

Only 4 more Tuesday El Dorados, and then our season is really over! Don't worry, Tren Morris will be promoting CBR time trials throughout 2005, and the TTT State Champs is August 21st (2-person & 4-person).

08/02/2005 - Save $7 by registering for our state champ crit before midnight Thursday

I hope you're resting for Saturday's state champ crit! It's our last weekend race, and here are the highlights:

  • A. Highest-placed Cat. II [man] wins FREE state champ jersey
  • B. Highest-placed Cat. III [woman] wins FREE state champ jersey
  • C. Pro/I/III race is 100k...that's 70 laps!
  • D. Many very cool giveaways-Simply Fit/CBR waterbottles, Clif Bar schwag, Monkey & Son coffee, and other cool cycling stuff.

We hope you can attend. If you register online before midnight on Thursday, then you can save yourself an extra $7. The Cat. V/Public Men and Cat. IV Women pay only $8 (if they're CBR members!). Where can you find a weekend bike race that charges only an $8 entry fee?

Start time for El Do tomorrow is 6:15pm; stay safe, train hard, and endure more pain than your competition!

08/01/2005 - Only 5 more El Dorados, then it's over for 2005!

Some interesting changes are taking place. Our good friend Khach gave us a prime from his business, www.A3Adventures.com, which is worth $1,100! It's a 5-day adventure with all the bells & whistles! Check out his website and his rigs. We're very fortunate that people like Khach are in our corner and step up when the called upon! This prime will be in the Masters 30+ I/II/III category in Saturday's race.

Our other good friend Kirk Bausch has also done a great deed for grassroots cycling by providing us with all of those cool watches from Freestyle USA throughout our criterium season. In addition to all of that, he also gave us 5 heart rate monitors that will be awarded at Saturday's race. Vera and I are very happy about these kind donations because it's gifts like these that we're able to award to racers like you.

Now I've gone on & on in these emails about our last crit also being the BAR Series finale. There will be many checks awarded that day, so please be patient! I also have the Voler gift certificates for the state champions when you acquire your free state champ jersey.

We are getting KILLED on pre-registration for Saturday's crit. I think we're up to only thirty racers total. If you're thinking about racing, you can save yourself the $7 and register before race day. Given the bike racer's penchant for being frugal, I doubt that racers are waiting to register on Saturday just to hand over an extra $7. If we're doing something wrong, you gotta let me know. I can't fix it if I don't know it's broken. We rely upon your word of mouth; it can make or break or races, so we trust you to make the right call! Tell everyone you know to race CBR's state champ crit this Saturday.

The good news is that you can register at El Dorado tomorrow and save the pre-reg. costs. Only 5 more El Dorados...does time fly or what? Don't forget: group picture at Eldo finale (8/30/5, 6pm).

07/25/2005 - Only 6 more El Dorado races...then it's hibernation time!

We cannot believe that there are only 6 more weeks of Eldo. We want to remind everyone that the last Eldo (August 30th) will be the photo shoot for 2005. We'll also do everything we can to have our sponsors there, too!

Velo Allegro will be at Eldo tomorrow to accept pre-registration for their bike race this upcoming Sunday. Many racers love this course, and expect to see some great racing!

CBR's state champ crit is August 6th, a Saturday. We hope to see everyone at our last BAR Series Finale.

Always remember that grassroots cycling is all about local racing for the local racer. We encourage positive criticism (so we can repeat what works) as well as negative criticism (so we can eliminate what doesn't work). CBR's Elite Men 100K crit distance happened because racers took the time to request a longer event for the elite class. Don't heistate to make local racing better!

Start time tomorrow is 6:30pm; stay safe, train hard, and endure more pain than your competition!

07/19/2005 - ONLY 7 MORE EL DORADOS FOR 2005!

There are only 7 more Eldos remaining, and we hope to see everyone for the last Eldo. It's not only the photoshoot, but we'll also regroup at Taco Surf like we did last year.

We've had a lot of new people coming to Eldo, and it's extremely important to encourage the new racers. As they've always been told, everyone starts at the beginning...no one starts as a Lance. Regarding El Dorado, use it as a marker until the entire 60 minutes can be completed. This sport will only grow if new racers are made to feel welcome and they enjoy our events!

Our state champ crit is August 6th, a Saturday. Tell the loved ones that you need to play on Saturday instead of Sunday that weekend, as we hope to see everyone at our last BAR Series Finale. 100K for the Pro/I/II field; that's about 69 laps! We'll have some great primes as well as cold, hard cash on hand, so count on it being fast!
Start time tomorrow is 6:30pm; stay safe, train hard, and endure more pain than your competition!

07/12/2005 - 8 more Eldos, State Champ crit, 2005 Eldo photo shoot

We cannot believe that there are only 8 more weeks of Eldo. We want to remind everyone that the last Eldo (August 30th) will be the photo shoot for 2005. We'll also do everything we can to have our sponsors there, too!

The groups did very well last week with regards to passing and overall spacing; this makes for a very easy filming. Also, ALL of the Cat. IVs listed their top-10 placings on the unofficial roster, an Eldo first! The masters still have the worst number placement on their jerseys, and the Pros don't care about anything I say, so all is well at Eldo! Also, if you want to sign up for Series III, we already deducted $5 from it, so the total is now $40.

Our state champ crit is August 6th, a Saturday. Tell the wives/girlfriends/partners that you need to play on Saturday instead of Sunday that weekend, as we hope to see everyone at our last BAR Series Finale.

Start time tomorrow is 6:30pm; stay safe, train hard, and endure more pain than your competition!

07/05/2005 - El Dorado has 9 more Tuesdays only!

El Dorado Series II Winners: Jamie Paolinetti (Pro/I-III), Bruce Gitmed (Category IV), and Al Shorts (Masters 40+). These winners receive Series III free as well as a Race Leader's jersey that they can keep forever and ever! Congratulations to all of them!

2 sides to every El Dorado coin:

  • HEADS-the video had a partial failure, so it did not capture every placing in the Cat. IV/V finish.
  • TAILS-when we looked at the racer's results placings, very few racers wrote their results.

This is why we ask everyone to write their placings down after the race is over; this is the back-up system we employ if numbers cannot be read or the video fails.

The 6/21 Masters victory went to Steve Gregorios instead of Vic Viscio. We apologize for the error, and the points have been corrected.

Some of the Cat. IV/V racers have this bad habit of looking back to see how close the Pro/I-III field is to overtaking them, then some will break away at the last second. The pack is neutralized, then the just-formed break takes pace behind the Pro/I-III...just enough to develop a significant time gap. This is not allowed, and when Vera tells the break to drop back to the group, then that is what must be done.

Series III starts tomorrow; please arrive early to complete the necessary Series III paperwork (or download from the CBR's website and come prepared!) This is the last paperwork for El Dorado! Only nine more Tuesdays, then the 2005 El Dorado racing season is over. Make the most of these last El Dorados.

That's it for now; we really appreciate everyone's support and help. Stay safe, train hard, and have fun on your bike!

06/21/2005 - PRO movie screening, Anger Management crit, State Crit Champs, El Dorado!

At 8:45pm this Saturday nite in Hollywood at the Vine Theater (6321 Hollywood Blvd/Vine) is LA's premiere screening of "PRO", directed by our current El Dorado Race Leader, Jamie Paolinetti! As much as it kills him, he's giving the 1st 100 people a free DVD of his movie at Saturday's screening...so get there early. As a cycling community, it would be horrible if the bike messenger groupo compacto had more attendance at their movie than our very own road race groupo at the elite racing movie, so show your support of a local racer AND movie director. We'll need a large turnout if we're ever gonna get Jamie to wear his favorite black turtleneck and beret at Sundance!

While you're snacking on those Clif Bar bites that you sneaked into the theater Saturday nite, you're also saving your legs for Sunday's Anger Management criterium. The pre-registration deadline is Friday night at 11:59pm; after that, then it's the late fee and the day-of registration line. No other races in town, so save some money and pre-register! Many of our local 'superstars' will be at Nationals trying to beat 149 other 'superstars,' so now is your chance to win, place, or show! In any event, the Anger Management crit will have great music, cool prizes, and wicked cash. We hope to see everyone there.
Don't forget our state crit champs on August 6th! It's gonna be great, especially with the P/I/II distance being 100k! Whew!

Only ten more El Dorados! Make sure to make the most of them. Train hard, stay safe, and take the pain!

06/14/2005 - El Do Crashes, State TT Champs, Anger Mgmt. Crit, State Crit Champs, CBR License Targets

Let's start with our most important announcement: Even when 1 crashes, everyone suffers. As you can tell from last week, it doesn't matter which category is affected when there's a crash. Once the fire truck & ambulance are on the course, the race can be called on account of vehicles on the course. There are only 12 Tuesday El Dorado remaining! Make them fast & safe! Thanks to everyone for all of their cooperation during that down-time!

Thursday is the last day to pre-register for the CBR State TT Championships this Saturday. After that, you can register for the race, but you'll pay an extra $10 and you cannot contest the jersey...so pre-register by using this Active.com link. If you're racing the tandem, be sure to put your stoker's (partner's) name and age in the short answer box. If you have a CBR annual license, you can deduct $5 from your entry fee.

2005 CBR annual memberships licenses. At last count, we were near 525 licenses. For this year, our goal was 550. It sure would be nice to hit that target! There are multiple El Dorado, multiple Piru Time Trials, as well as crit and state championships for new members to use their license. If you know someone who's still interested in supporting CBR, they can become an annual member by visiting our website & downloading the form or you can use the online atice.com link at the end of this email.

The Anger Management Crit is right around the corner, on Sunday the 26th. This will be the 5th of the 6-race BAR Series. We'll have our usual categories, and we hope to see everyone there. You can pre-register and save $7 before the 24th. Another added bonus: not waiting in the day-of registration line & picking up your number when you arrive! If you'd like to pre-register online, then you can use this Active.com link.

The CBR State Crit Championship/BAR Series finale is Saturday, August 6th. The P/1/2 crit will race for 100km, which is about 69 laps at the Dominguez Hills course! The BAR Series leaders will also be vying for $1,000 to the top-10, along with the daily category cash! Pre-register online with this Active.com link.

That's all for now. If there's anything else you need, contact us! Stay safe, train hard, and grow the sport!

06/07/2005 - Eldo results, State TT Champ Info, Anger Mgmt. Crit Info, and State Crit Champ Info

I cannot believe how fast this season has been. I am very impressed with the speeds, as most of us really enjoy this type of training that you cannot duplicate on the bike path!

The State Time Trial Champ's is upon us, and the window is less than 11 days away! If you plan on registering, you can do it either online or snail mail. Contact Tren Morris (805-340-2673 or UncleTren@hotmail.com) if you have questions about the race. His race flyer is on CBR's website for additional info.

Our 4th Annual Anger Management Criterium is also fast approaching (can you believe it's already been 4 years???), so expect to hear some exceptional & disgruntled music by our very own DJ Dave Skott!

Finally, our CBR State Crit Champ's will be held on a Saturday (August 6th). There are minor changes to the order of categories, so pay close attention to your respective start times. We also added a 50+ category because it is a state championship. Many elite racers wanted the P/I/II course extended (to thin the herd), so we responded by making it 100 kilometers. 100km will be very challenging, so those state champs will have definitely earned their jerseys! It's also the BAR Series Finale, where we'll award an extra $1,000 to the top-10 racers in the designated BAR categories.

El Dorado has been doing great, so that's all there is to say about that! The Race Leaders have been coming out to pound the competition, and that makes for faster racing for everyone! We hope to see everyone tonight at eldo, and if there's anything you need then contact us.

Stay safe, train harder than your competition, and race with honor.

06/01/2005 - CBR State TT Champs, State Crit Champs, 4th Annual Anger Management Crit

We uploaded the CBR State Time Trial Champs (Individual & Tandem) for June 18th; it will be at the same location as last year. You must pre-register to be eligible for the winner's jersey. Please read the flyer on CBR's website. SoCalCycling has the wrong date...it is JUNE 18th! Any questions, call Tren Morris at 805-340-2673 or email him at UncleTren@hotmail.com.

ALWAYS use CBR's website for the most current information. CBR's website will have it first!

Next is the 4th Annual Anger Management Crit held at Dominguez Hills, our usual crit location. Please make every attempt to support grassroots cycling! Your attendance guarantees future cool races, and it's because of you that we hold these events!

Finally, our State Crit Champs will be at Dominguez Hills, too. We added a kicker for the Pro/I/II event...they will be racing 100 Kilometers! It's going to be very hard to race 100km on that course, but the highest-placed Cat. I as well as the highest-placed Cat. II win be awarded their FREE State Champ jersey. We don't expect to add Cat. IIIs to this event unless turnout is lame, then we'll open it to the Cat. IIIs.

Whoever quits last WINS! See ya at the races!

05/24/2005 - We just uploaded the results for the Clif Bar-Clif Shot bike race, so please look for them on CBR's website. We also updated the BAR Series (after 4 races), so look for them on CBR's website as well.

The groups at El Dorado have been doing very well lately, so keep up the great work! After tomorrow, we are at EXACTLY the halfway point of El Dorado...only 3 more months remaining.

We received much feedback on last year's Miss-n-Out crit in the Masters category, as some want us to bring it back again. Let us know if you like or dislike the idea.

ALSO, we're changing the Pro/I/II category for the state crit champs/BAR Series finale. It will be 100 kilometers (62 miles) at the Dominguez Hills course. There will be a feed zone around the wheel pit area, as many will need feeds for this race. We're also awarding a separate state champ jersey to the highest-placed Category II racer, so the Cat. II racers need to know this.

If there's anything else we can do to make this sport grow, let us know. See you soon.

05/18/2005 - Eldo starts at 6:30pm!

Not much to pass on...this Tuesday was great! No issues, good spacing between the categories, good passing among the groups, and most everyone had their numbers on correctly for the video (sideways, along the ribcage!)

I'll update the BAR Series by tomorrow; will have it uploaded soon!

This Sunday is our 4th of 6 BAR Series, the Clif Bar-Clif Shot bike race. Pre-register for the race, save $7 AND no waiting in that long, day-of registration line! You have until FRIDAY to save yourself the late fee!

Our 5th is our Anger Management crit on June 26th, and our last race is our State Crit Champs/BAR Series finale on August 6th. We can't believe the season is halfway done. Whew!

Lead from the front, race with honor, and set the example for others to follow

05/12/2005 - El Dorado will race on Tuesday the 17th of May! El Dorado will race on Tuesday the 17th of May!

It's important to notify all of you that we will hold El Dorado on Tuesday the 17th of May (next Tuesday). Earlier, there was a movie shoot conflict, but they bailed...so we're back to our regular El Dorado race. Start time is 6:30pm!

Many items to discuss for the San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race, so I'll list them in detail:

1. Racer Conduct: Please use designated restroom facilities. Home owners (and their children) will not appreciate observing racers relieving themselves contrary to the law, so PLEASE be respectful of their neighborhoods.

2. Race Hotel: Comfort Suites-San Clemente, 949.361.6600, located at 3701 S. El Camino Real; SC, CA 92672. If you're coming the night before, this is the place to be, as it's the race hotel!

3. Race Parking: 3 areas (middle school parking lot [1330 Avenida Talega], up the hill on Turn 4, and Avenida La Pata). Get there early to secure good parking and to watch those Masters duke it out for the cash & primes!

4. Tomorrow (Thursday, 05/12) is the last day to register before you get nailed with the late fee, so save yourself $7 and pre-register; besides, the line will be way shorter than the day-of registration line! That, in and of itself, is worth the savings! Don't forget that this is the 3rd BAR Series (of 6)!

5. This race is the California's Richest Masters Circuit Race! We have over $8,000 in cash, $500 in cash primes, and over $2,000 in prizes & primes. Not only that, but 50% of the race proceeds is going to the San Clemente Foundation towards building a swimming pool.

6. If you don't have a USCF license, be prepared to show them your CBR license (& buy a $10 1-day). If you have neither license, then you're restricted to racing the Cat. V and/or the 40+ IV/V on a $10 USCF 1-day license. Having your CBR license allows you to race as high as a Cat. III, so please don't forget your license.

That's it, we gotta go to sleep! See you all Saturday...or Tuesday! Questions?

05/09/2005 - So much info to pass!

1) El Dorado will not take place on May 17th, and has been re-scheduled for May 26th. Start time for tomorrow's El Do is 6:15pm. That means this Tuesday is good: next Tuesday they're filming a huge movie, so we were able to have Stage III on Thursday the 26th of May. Next week there will be 2 Eldos in one week, Tuesday the 24th and Thursday the 26th. We will also take pre-registration at Eldo tomorrow for the San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race as well as the Clif Bar-Clif Shot Criterium.

2) Don't forget that we've added a 50+ category to the San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race [SCCCR]. We had a good response from the roadies at the Tour of Murrieta, and this race favors those 50+ racers who like fewer corners. It's a 2.4 mile circuit with a slight incline. By the looks of it, it lasts for (about) a 1/4 mile with a 3-4% grade. The wind might make it a brute, and the mountain goats will be looking to break away. It's our 1st Annual race there, and we really hope to make this a permanent fixture to the Southern California cycling season. This is also a charity event, as 50% of the proceeds will be going to the San Clemente Foundation. We hope you, your friends, and family can attend this race as it will be very challenging to those contesting all the prizes & cash that we'll be awarding! Pre-registration closes THURSDAY, so don't miss out on reserving your race number! Go online thru Active.com or send it in via snail mail. Either way, we encourage you to save money by not getting dinged with the late fee. This is also a BAR Series (Best All-around Racer) event, and you must have a CBR annual license to be in the points running. The flyer has this in detail.

3) The week after the SCCCR, we're back at Dominguez Hills with the 3rd Annual Clif Bar-Clif Shot Criterium. This will be the 4th race (of 6 races) for the BAR Series. I'm going to upload the BAR Series points tally before the start of the SCCCR so everyone knows their overall placing. Register by mail or via Active.com.

That's it for now. Because of the time thing, it is best to send me an email because I can answer it at all hours of the night, but it's rude for me to call you at 5am. I hope to see you tomorrow as well as this Saturday...it's gonna be a great race!

-Christopher Lotts, Executive Director of CBR

05/02/2005 - 2005 El Do Series 1winners! Jamie Paolinetti (P/I-III), Christian Feldhake (IV/V), Howard Miller (40+)

Congrats to the above-mentioned winners; they deserve it! They'll also receive the CBR Race Leader's jersey, courtesy of Simply Fit/Fuel Up! It's a really cool jersey, and this year we modified it so we can recognize those that consistently excel at Eldo!

Series 2 waivers will need to be completed for tomorrow, so print them off the website, sign them & keep those lines moving so we can roll out on time! Start time at 6pm!

The primes for the San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race are a lock; we are now in the process of spreading them out over the eleven (11) categories. The cash breakdown will be posted soon, so please be on the lookout at CBR's website! Roger Worthington raised almost all of that cash for the prizelist, so make sure you give him a great big Bronx cheer when you see him! Even though he has no spare time, he found a great course, got the permits streamlined, and found the cash! Is there anything he can't do????

The week after San Clemente, we'll return to Dominguez Hills with our 3rd Annual Clif Bar-Clif Shot bike race. We are very proud that Clif Bar has been with us for over 3 years, and we really like eating their Builder Bites!

VNC Racing is in partnership with the The Friends of San Clemente Beaches, Parks & Recreation Foundation. 50% of the San Clemente race proceeds will go to the Foundation, so we really hope to inspire the bike racers in supporting this event!

04/21/2005 - We had to get these [El Do] results out now because there will be ZERO time between now & Monday. It was very nice to see such a tight sprint in the Elite Men, and it was even better to see racers like Pat Caro stick their face in the wind and making people hurt...kinda reminds me of what Ryan Barrett did when he came out to play. Now onto the announcements...

1. Tonight & tomorrow are the final hours to register for the 2nd Annual Ride It Like You Stole It bike race, taking place this Sunday at Dominguez Hills. Register now and you'll save yourself $7. We want you to save money, so hit up registration early! Don't forget that the Cat. V racers get a free racer's clinic before their start!

2. Speaking of saving money, you can also save an extra $7 by holding an annual license. This annual license also allows you to throw your hat in the BAR Series. The points are real tight in the 30+ and 40+, and it's anyone's game in the Elite Men. More Elite Men need to grab a license and start competing for the overall BAR Series prizelist of $1,000 to the top-10 awarded at the end of the Series!

3. Suzanne Sonye is a great racer, and we're fortunate to consider her a good friend. She will never hesitate to voice her concerns, and her motive is purely to improve the sport of cycling...especially for women. After speaking with her last night, we've decided to increase the prizelist of the Elite Women in the San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race. If forty women (or more) register for the Elite Women I-III category, then we will DOUBLE the prizelist to $500 cash. We feel that providing this conditional incentive will motivate the women to communicate and support this event with (even) greater of ease. Besides, this is no crit course...more of a road race with multiple laps.

4. That's all for now; we hope to see you at the LA Bike Expo, our crit this Sunday, and at Eldo next Tuesday!

04/19/2005 - Announcements & [El Do] race results!

1. The 2nd Annual Ride It Like You Stole It Bike Race, this Sunday April 24th at Dominguez Hills! Registration ends on Thursday at 11:59pm, and we'll take pre-registration at Eldo tomorrow. One thing I just remembered: I know that a lot of you spend a buttload of time on the freeway to make it to our event, week in and week out. Vera and I personally thank you for taking the time to come. Traffic in LA sucks, so it means a lot to us when we see you making an effort to race on Tuesday. If we can help with carpools, please let us know!

2. Safe sprinting at El Dorado. Teams can practice setting up their designated sprinter, so long as safety remains the utmost priority. Remembering which teammate is peeled off to which side takes practice. "Jumping" out of your lane and into the path of someone else's is unsafe and crazy....please make sure there is an opening before you take possession of that lane. Opening up a gap is a tactic; pedal stoppage, throwing up an arm, and diving to the curb (with no flat tire) is dangerous and can ruin your reputation...don't do that!

3. The San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race, Saturday May 14th! This course is gonna be great, and the Dream Race is really going to hurt! If the winner of the Dream Race (Pro-I-II) is 40+ years old, then they win an extra $1,000!!! Three are definitely in the running for that bonus: Vampire, Thurlow, and Jamie. I can't wait to see who wins the Dream Race.

4. The LA Bike Expo will be in town this weekend, and CBR will have a booth there on Saturday & (hopefully) Sunday. This weekend's gonna be insane with both the expo & the crit, so please be patient if you have licenses or email queries pending!

Remember why you're riding/racing your bike! This is a hobby and doesn't come close to paying the mortgage! Have fun out there, and call me if you have questions.

-Christopher Lotts, Executive Director of CBR

04/13/2005 - Thanks for attending our events! Just a few messages to pass along.

#1. I'm always reminded that even the best pros crash; the flat stages of the Tour de France come to mind. That being said, crashes have no place at El Dorado...this is one reason why we kept it as a point system. We want everyone to have fun, so please keep safety in mind when sprinting. We don't want to see people hurt.

#2. The Ride It Like You Stole It (RILYSI) is less than 2 weeks away, so register while you can. It looks like we'll be the only race in town that weekend...not to mention that it will be the 2nd BAR Series event for the 30+, 40+, and Elite Men. This year, we're DOUBLING the prizelist for the BAR Series winners. $1,000 instead of $500, and we're awarding it to the highest 10 point holders at our final race in August.

#3. Active.com is now taking registrations for the San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race (SCCCR)! We ironed out the wrinkles, so you're now able to lock-in your registration. We'd love for this to become a traditional race, so this is why we need to show the City of San Clemente how happy we are to have a great & challenging course. Either test ride the course or pick someone's brain who lives/rides nearby. If anyone rode the course and wants their opinion listed on the website, then send us your quote! We want others to know what you think!

#4. Stay safe, train hard, and take more pain than your competitors!

Wide Old Man Advice, Part II: Distinguish people of words from people of deeds; trees that bear leaves but not fruit usually have no core. Know them for what they are...of no use except for shade.

04/04/2005 - Please do not forget that we'll start El Dorado racing at 5:45pm, one hour later because of the time change! This means that the new rider/racer clinic will start at 4:45pm.

If you are new to El Dorado , or "Eldo," you need to arrive a bit earlier to complete the paperwork. Each Series (March/April [1], May/June[2], July/August[3]) needs only one waiver...but it's very important that you complete the paperwork on the CBR annual membership license! It costs $30, and you make up the difference in ten (10) Eldo rides. There are twenty-two (22) Eldo rides remaining! The license also discounts the weekend entry fees by as much as $7.

We're keeping this email short, as we just sent out the CBR April Notes two days ago! See you tomorrow.

Wise Old Man Advice, Part I. Do not show everyone your wounded finger, for everything will knock up against it. The wise never confess to being hit. Do not disclose the source of pain or joy if you wish one to cease and the other to endure.

04/02/2005 - There is a ton of information to pass-so please relax, read, and soak it all in!

Announcements:
1. Ride It Like You Stole It (RILYSI) is set for April 24th at our course at Dominguez Hills. This will also be the 2nd BAR Series event for those in the points running. You can register online. We hope to see you there.

2. San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race (SCCCR) is ready for May 14th. This will be our largest event that Vera & I have ever undertaken. We've never had this much cash in one race, and we could not have done it without Roger & his supporters. This is a great course, and we finalized details recently at last Thursday's San Clemente meeting. We also videotaped the course and hope to have it uploaded to CBR's website. Here are the course streets: start/finish near the school on Avenida Talega, right turn (1) on Avenida Hermosa, right turn (2) on Avenida La Pata, right turn (3) on Avenida Saluda, right turn (4) on Avenida Talega...~300 meters from that corner will be the finish line. Online race registration is pending, so guarantee your race number by mailing it in; we expect full fields the entire day!

3. Eldo is booming! It's been really fast so far, so racers are receiving some great training. The race for the Costa Rica trip is hotly contested between Jamie & Mark, and the Bumblebees gotta figure out which superstar (Craig, Erick, Turtle?) will get points to keep them in the game! The passing of the groups have been outstanding, and everyone has been very cooperative with this (thanks!). The TIME CHANGE makes Eldo start at 5:45pm, so plan accordingly.

4. CBR annual membership licenses: we hope to see a big surge at Eldo because of the time change. It costs $30 and it goes to a great cause: local racing! 100% of the annual license fees goes to the year's cash prizelist; it is returned back to the local racers. Eldo racers save $3 every Tuesday & weekend racers save $7, so you'll make it up in no time. If we run out of prizelist money for our final state crit championship in August, then we'll award used t-shirts, coupons, and recycled aluminum cans! Make sure that doesn't happen and tell your buddies to grab a CBR license!

5. The Piru TT Series is back and ready. In fact, it's this weekend for April (40k Saturday, 20k Sunday). Call Tren Morris for updated information at 805-340-2673. He told me last night that his website will be updated soon! Don't forget that Tren is also the promoter for CBR's State Time Trial (individual, tandem, 2-person, & 4-person) Championships! More details to follow.

6. The LA Bike Expo (www.bikeshow.com) will be here April 23rd & 24th. CBR will have a booth set up at the LA Bike Expo, and we'll need some volunteers to work the booth on April 24th (it's at the LA Convention Center near Staples Center)...since RILYSI will keep us busy on Sunday. If you can volunteer for Sunday, then you'd be doing us a HUGE favor. We'll have our commercial, brochures, race flyers, stickers, and other information to pass out to those who are interested in racing. This is important because the LA Bike Expo is a place for competitive riders & upcoming racers to get their start into local racing. We hope that CBR offers a locale and a venue where new racers can develop into seasoned racers! Please volunteer if you can.

7. BAR (Best All-around Racer) info: I know that I'm late in getting the results printed and uploaded. I apologize. I'm going to try and give them to my web guy by Sunday night. The week loads up with work and Eldo (we'll post results soon!), so please bear with me.

Whew! That's it for April...a lot of information to pass. If there's anything I missed, please let me know!

You're either living or dying: living is doing what you want to do, dying is everything else.

03/21/2005 - Like pain? Try racing your bike!

Good evening to you, and we have just a few announcements to pass before the start of tomorrow's Eldo!

1. Eldo waiver reminder: only one per series, and most everyone is good until the start of May.

2. CBR Street Team: if we happen to see a CBR sticker on your vehicle during a non-cycling event, you get a free entry into our race & $10 the next time we see you! Congrats to Hollie Lund, who was spotted with her sticker on the 60 freeway (we saw you!). Start putting those stickers on everything, including the dog!

3. When was the last time we had a really cool bike race in South Orange County? You're right, ya gotta move mountains to get a permit, and Roger Worthington did just that. Not only did he finagle the permit, but he's raised over $8,000 for California's Richest Masters Circuit Race! If you wait until the last minute, you won't get in...I know the Masters fields will be full, and the Roadies are going to love the course & terrain. Saturday, May 14th...register now & reserve your spot on the line! It's also our 3rd BAR Series event!

4. Our 2nd BAR Series event is the Ride It Like You Stole It Criterium in Dominguez Hills. The race date has changed to Sunday-April 24th. If you liked the Labor Power crit, then you'll like this race...exactly the same place, same race times, and same race categories!

That's it for now. Train hard, stay safe, and play it smart!

03/13/2005 - Eldo is hella fast, RILYSI race date change, SCCCR, & Roger's write up.

I'm sorry for getting this out so late. Typically, Tuesday night is recovery for us at our house (we gotta prep for our jobs on WED). We'll try to run the camera for the official finish on WED, then upload the results that night. If all goes well, then we can broadcast the email on THU. Please be patient, as we're juggling many, many, balls (see below).

A weekend opened up that left a vacant Sunday in the So Cal racing season. With the Westlake Village stage race being cancelled, we made the command decision to change our Ride It Like You Stole It (RILYSI) crit to Sunday, April 24th! With the name like that, you know you want to come and race it! We're offering the same great music, atmosphere, primes, and cash. It's also our 2nd (of 6) BAR Series. If The Donald ever came out to watch, he would call it the Best Bike Race ever!

The San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race is also California's Richest Masters Circuit Race. Roger Worthington has done some incredible fundraising to give those Masters a boatload of money. It will be held on Saturday, May 14th. Mother's Day is that Sunday, so you need to sell it to the moms by taking them to the best restaurant on Sunday so you're allowed to play with the boys on Saturday. In reaching a partnership with the USCF, this is a joint USCF/CBR event. It's held under USCF permit (So Cal Cup Points awarded), and it's also part of CBR (BAR Series points awarded). This event is 2 months away, so please schedule it into your calendar and pore-ride the course...you're going to love it. The primes we're obtaining are going to be fantastic!

Roger Worthington, once again, wrote an interesting article about last Sunday's CBR crit in Dominguez Hills. I'm still trying to get my head around it, but Roger reluctantly parted with a pair of Labor Power socks and offered them as a prime. It's times like these that I'm glad he really digs deep to give back to sport. Thurlow "Turbo" Rogers was the proud winner. In fact, he asked about the socks first, and money second! Full story here.

This Tuesday, we had 179 racers at Eldo (67 in the P/1/2/3, 58 in the 40+/W, and 54 in the IV/V), which was outstanding! For that ultimate trip to Costa Rica, 2 people are already in a heated battle....Mark Scott and the guy that directed The Hard Road & PRO, The Movie! Man was it fast!

Don't forget to support CBR by being an annual license holder. It's only $30, and ALL of your proceeds are returned to the local racer via a cash prizelist!

-Christopher Lotts, Executive Director of CBR

03/08/2005 - Due to the cancellation of the West Lake Village Stage Race scheduled for 04/22-04/24, CBR's "Ride It Like You Stole It" Criterium is moving from Saturday, 04/09 to Sunday, 04/24/05.

The race info is the same but the date has changed to take advantage of the now-open Sunday race date. A new flyer is posted on the Races & Results page.

03/08/2005 - 1st Eldo done, 26 more to go!

First, we want to thank everyone who came out and attended the 1st El Dorado of the 2005 Season. The 1st race is always the craziest, and that it was!

If you notice a change in the final sprint point structure, it's because we changed it. The top-10 racers are officially scored for points, as long as we can read them.

That brings me to the next topic: NUMBER PLACEMENT. You must place it sideways, 1/2 on the rib cage, the other 1/2 behind your left lung. If it's on the back of your ass, the camera won't record it. If it's on the middle of your back, the camera won't record it...although the local ghetto bird might. Need a visual?

Second, our 1st BAR Series crit is this Sunday; Labor Power/Mesothel Crit. You can sign up via Active.com: save yourself $7. You have until Friday at 11:59 PM! If you buy our $30 CBR Annual License at the crit, you automatically save an extra $7 from your entry fee.

On a side note, it looks like we're building the California's Richest Master's Circuit Race at San Clemente on 05/14/05. The Masters categories are going to be PUMPED with cash, and it will be extremely fast! Look for our flyer at our crit on Sunday!

Stay safe, train hard, and race smarter than your opponents!

03/01/2005 - Eldo starts today! Labor Power Crit Sunday! San Clemente Challenge 05/14/05!

"CBR is in the game to stay.. and this kind of thing isn't far off for CBR... eventually the haters will all have to come on board because you will be doing the best races and the best promo and the best marketing in the area. " -Erik Saunders, professional cyclist for the McGuire/Langdale Cycling Team.

Erik's talented to the point where he had the opportunity to discuss his tactics on "PRO" the movie/DVD. He knows his stuff, so feel free to pick his brain when you see him at our races. Better yet, go to his website; he has some GREAT weblinks (check out evilcycling)! He'll be the fast guy at the front.

Video Has anyone seen our 30-second commercial on CBR's website? It's a commercial for El Dorado Tuesday Night Training Races and Mark Bixby did a terrific job with it! I'm very happy that he took time out of his life to complete a project of this magnitude. It is EXACTLY this type of selflessness that give us hope for the future of this MTV, PlayStation, ADHD, Ritalin-addicted planet.

The bicycle racing season has officially started. Do you know how I can tell? Because El Dorado starts today! That's right, roadies. We will be there at about 3pm, the racer clinic starts at 3:45pm, and the groups start racing at 4:45pm! Arrive early to sign waivers, annual memberships, and have questions answered. Also, if you are one of those racers holding our Eldo numbers hostage, please return them...no questions asked! The people that receive the 1st Series for free are the winners from the 2004 Series 3, and they are: Martin Howard (40+), Robert Minn (IV/V), and Jason Bausch (P/I/II/III). Congrats to those hammerheads! We'll also have a pre-registration box for our 1st BAR Series crit this Sunday, The 1st Annual Labor Power/Mesothel Crit in Dominguez Hills. The pre-reg deadline has been extended, so you still have time to register without the late fee!

The Labor Power/Mesothel BAR Series crit is the 1st of 6 crits that we will be promoting this year. The BAR stands for Best All-around Racer, and they will compete for an addtional award of $1,000 to the top-10 point holders. One thing, though: you must have a 2005 CBR annual license to throw your hat in the ring. Points are not grandfathered, so you must have the license BEFORE you throw yer bike across the line. The top-20 finishers in the Pro-Elite Men, Masters 30+I/II/III, and Masters 40+I/II/III vie for BAR points, so the most consistent finishers stay in the game. This cash is in addition to the daily cash, so it will all add up very quickly.

Behind the curtain: we're also finishing preparations for the 1st Annual San Clemente Challenge Circuit Race. This is a great course...kind reminds me of La Mirada but a bigger loop. It's a 2.4 mile circuit with a very nice incline & decline and a kicker finish! It's a really cool course, and you're going to want to test ride it so you can plot your tactics...we plan on adding more money to the P/1/2, 30+, and 40+ groups, so it will be extremely competitive! Plan early! This is a Saturday race (5/14/5) because Mother's Day is Sunday. Communicate (diplomatically) to the moms that Saturday is Daddy's day to punish the wicked, and Sunday is Mommy's day to go to restaurant of her choice.

Tren Morris of Uncle Tren Race Productions is having his Piru TT this Sunday, March 6th. Call him at 805-340-2673 to verify the times and the course. I know he's been out there to survey the roads, so he is the best one to contact. He and his wife Jen greatly assisted us at the ToM, and we are proud to have their events on our CBR calendar. You don't receive sponsorship by Dr. Eric Sternlicht by being a knucklehead race promoter, and Uncle Tren does a great job!

Many clubs (still) need to register with CBR! If not, the club/teams will not get their props in the official finish rosters. Three new clubs have stepped up and recognized CBR as a racing organization: PAA/Merril Lynch, Velo Club La Grange, and Hi-Tech Men's/Big Ring Racing. We are very excited that clubs are recognizing that we are doing everything possible to promote the sport, and when sponsors see the club name next to the racer's name...they 'get' it.

And finally (whew!), we have a little prose from one of our newer racers to the sport, Max Kash Agro, or MKA for short. He started racing soon after the training wheels came off, and boy does he love to talk his exploits! His recent story is here and it is a beauty! He spins an interesting yarn about time trialing and our latest Tour of Murrieta. After reading it, I feel that it's worthy of some sort of literary award. Why he's a lawyer, I don't know.

That's it for now, we'll post the Eldo results soon. Until then-race hard, train smart, and stay safe!

02/26/2005 - What a week it has been! In a 17-day period, we will have promoted 5 bike races (3-stage ToM, El Dorado, & Labor Power crit).

Just a short note to let you know that the ToM results (for the most part) are final and posted on CBR's ToM website; only minor changes in the next day or so. This was our first-ever stage race, so please have mercy on us...we are ironing out the wrinkles for next year, as we always try to repeat the good and eliminate the bad. Checks to the GC Omnium Winners will be in the mail (I promise!) by Monday! Congrats to all of those that braved the wind, rain, and mud! Many thanks to the volunteers from I E Bikes Racing as well as their sponsors for putting up the prizes and primes...we could not have done it without them.

El Dorado starts this Tuesday at 4:45pm and will finish at 5:45 pm, so arrive early to complete the required paperwork. CBR annual members pay $6 and day-of members pay $9. For CBR members, the Series costs $45, and the Annual costs $125. We'll have CBR annual memberships available for $30. The new rider/racer clinic will happen EXACTLY one hour before the race.

Now onto the bigger stuff: our first crit in Dominguez Hills takes place on Sunday the 6th of March. Pre-registration is now open on Active.com for the 1st Annual Labor Power/Mesothel Criterium and closes March 4th at 11:59pm, so don't wait until the last minute. This is also the first of a six-race BAR [Best All-around Racer] Series, where we will also award an additional $1,000 to the top-10 racers of the Pro/I/II, Masters 30+ I/II/III, and the Masters 40+ I/II/III categories. Points are awarded to the top-20 daily finishers who will compete for the overall prize money. Only CBR annual members are eligible to receive points, so get the license BEFORE you crack the top-20! If you pre-register, you save an extra $7...whether you use active.com or our PO Box!

If you go to entryworks.com, Luzo has a free online mileage log for bike racers. So check it out & play with it...you'll be glad you did! That's all for now: train hard, stay safe, and race smart!

02/02/2005 - Pre-register for Tour of Murrieta and save $30!!!

Let the 2005 Racing season begin! Just a few short annnouncements: for 2005, VNC Racing will be scoring the Category III women (WIII) separately. While they will race with the WIs and WIIs as well as compete for the same prizelists, we will score them amongst their own-so they will know where they rank among their peers! This idea came to us from Michelle Webster (Velo Allegro). We hope that this encourages more women to keep racing their bikes!

There is a $30 LATE FEE for the Tour of Murrieta Stage Race if you do not register by February 5th! We need as many names as possible to start ranking the time trial start times for each category, which is why we kept the entry fee low (especially if you have a CBR license). If you're going to register for this race, save yourself the $30 and avoid the late fee. We will need pick-up trucks for the wheels/follow vehicle in each category, so if one of your family members can step up, we'd really appreciate it. We'll also need motors as lead/pacers...so if you know someone who wants to ride their motorcycle in front of the lead group, then please let us know!

We're close to 250 CBR annual licenses, somewhat close to our goal of 750. Please remember that it's the annual license fee that funds the 2005 CBR cash prizelist. If we have $5,000, then we spend $5,000. If we have $25,000, then we spend $25,000. We have 1 stage race, 5 criteriums, 27 El Dorados, 1 road race, and 16 time trials! If you like our events and want to see them continue, then become a part of grassroots bike racing by being a member. Racing more of our events saves you more money!

The Piru TT is 86'd for February on account of road closures, so there is the Mothballs crit in Santa Barbara. This is a USCF event, so make sure you bring your CBR license if you don't have a USCF license [USCF-CBR Reciprocity Agreement for upgrades & can race as high as a Category III with CBR license if you purchase a $10 USCF 1-day].

01/27/2005 - The L.A. County's Dept. of Public Works suggests turning part of the northern section of Long Beach's El Dorado Regional Park (Area 3, north of Wardlow Rd.) into wetlands. The course for Tuesday El Do races will be under water!

A Community Meeting to discuss the El Dorado Regional Park Feasibility Study was held December 8, 2004. Read about the meeting and study and see a concept drawing here.

The next meeting is February 23 and we want you to be there to support saving El Do! More details are here.
